Use case
Run email for your domains on your own server
Last reviewed October 2026
Vexlyx runs a complete mail server on the same machine as your websites and apps: Postfix to send and receive, Dovecot for IMAP, and Roundcube for webmail. Create a mailbox on any domain you've connected, and Vexlyx generates the SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX records that mail providers check before they trust you.
Installing mail software is the easy part. Getting mail delivered is harder, and no panel can do all of it for you. Here is the honest split.
What Vexlyx handles and what's on you
Vexlyx handles: installing and wiring up the mail stack with TLS certificates; generating SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX records when a domain gets its first mailbox; publishing them for you if Vexlyx hosts the domain's DNS, or showing you the exact records to add (and checking them against public DNS) if your DNS stays at your registrar; starting with safe defaults (SPF soft-fail, DMARC report-only) you can tighten once mail is landing; rotating DKIM keys without breaking mail already in flight; and a mail queue and delivery log so you can see why a message bounced.
You handle: a server host that allows mail traffic (inbound ports 25, 587 and 993 need to be open, and many providers block outbound port 25 until you ask); reverse DNS (PTR) for the server's IP, which your host sets, not Vexlyx; and your sending reputation, since a new server and domain should start with low volume and real recipients.
What you get
- Mailboxes on any connected domain, with quotas from 256 MB to 10 GB, or unlimited
- Aliases with multiple destinations, plus one catch-all address per domain
- Roundcube webmail at webmail.<your-panel-domain>, shared by every domain on the server
- IMAP and SMTP for any desktop or phone mail client (IMAP only, no POP3)
- Vacation auto-replies, sent once per sender within an interval you set
- A 0-100 score per domain showing which authentication records are present and valid
- Mail included in the server's scheduled backups, alongside your sites, databases and DNS
Questions
Will my email land in spam?
It can, and the panel is only part of the answer. Vexlyx creates the authentication records that Gmail, Outlook and others check, and its score shows which ones are missing. Your server's IP reputation, its reverse DNS record and how you send decide the rest.
My VPS provider blocks port 25. Can I still use this?
Receiving mail works once inbound port 25 is open. Sending to other mail servers needs outbound port 25, which many providers block by default, so ask yours to lift it. Panel notifications, such as password resets, can go through an authenticated SMTP relay instead.
Do I have to move my DNS to Vexlyx?
No. Keep DNS at your registrar and Vexlyx shows you the exact records to add, then confirms they're live. If you'd rather Vexlyx host the zone, it writes the records itself.
Do I need a separate server for email?
No. Mail runs next to your apps, sites and databases, on the same install and in the same backups.
What does it cost?
The software is free and MIT licensed. You pay only for the server. One install command on a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 server.
