Use case

Host WordPress on your own server, next to everything else

Last reviewed October 2026

Vexlyx is a free, open-source hosting panel that runs WordPress the way a traditional host does: one-click install, no build step, and files you can reach over SFTP or a built-in file manager. It runs on your own Ubuntu server, so there's no per-site fee and you don't share the machine with anyone else.

Where it differs from a classic panel is the rest of the server. The same dashboard deploys Next.js, Node and Python apps from Git. If a client has a WordPress marketing site and a Next.js app, both run on one server, behind one login, in one backup.

How WordPress runs

Each site runs on the official WordPress image with nginx and PHP-FPM, connected to a database you create in the panel. The installer downloads core, generates secure salts and writes wp-config.php for you. wp-content lives on a persistent volume, so themes, plugins and uploads survive redeploys. Pretty permalinks work out of the box.

What you get

  • One-click WordPress install, with plugin and theme ZIP uploads from the panel
  • Plain PHP, Laravel and Symfony sites; projects without a composer.json run with no build step
  • A built-in file manager (uploads up to 1000 MB) and chrooted SFTP per project
  • Custom domains, subdomains and automatic Let's Encrypt certificates
  • MySQL and PostgreSQL databases with generated credentials, and optional Adminer
  • Mailboxes on the same domain, from the same panel
  • Admin, reseller and user roles, for agencies hosting client sites
  • Scheduled full-server backups covering sites, databases, mail and DNS

Questions

Can I move an existing WordPress site to Vexlyx?

Yes. Vexlyx runs PHP with no build step, so a migration package such as a Duplicator backup (an installer.php plus its archive) can be uploaded and run as it is. We tested this with a real site of about 26,000 files.

Does this replace a cPanel-style host?

For hosting itself, yes: WordPress, PHP, databases, SSL and mail. It doesn't run cPanel plugins or import cPanel accounts. See the cPanel comparison for details.

Can I run a Next.js app on the same server as my WordPress sites?

Yes. App deploys and WordPress run on the same panel, with the same login and the same backups. Each project gets its own container and HTTPS route.

How are backups handled?

Scheduled full-server backups cover every project's files, databases, mail and DNS, with retention and restore from the panel. They're stored on the server's own disk, so copy them somewhere else for real disaster recovery.

What does it cost?

The software is free and MIT licensed, with no per-site fee. You pay only for the server, a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 machine.

Ready to try it on your own server?

One install command on a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 box.
